Beyond the Expanded Field
9-10:00am

In 1979 Rosalind Krauss published her seminal essay, ‘Sculpture in the Expanded Field’, that presented new frameworks to map relationships between sculpture, architecture and landscape. The logical expansions offered through Krauss’s deconstructivist approach (transforming a binary set into a quaternary field) created space for a variety of intersectional, fringe, and emergent forms to find situation in relation to disciplinary knowledge.

Comprised of a diverse group of artists, entrepreneurs, curators, educators and directors, participants in this panel reconsider Krauss’s work in relation to contemporary practice, discovering, along the way, new affinities, kinships and shared methodologies that intersect through their wide ranging practices. Ultimately, Beyond the Expanded Field poses questions - both to our field, and to the audience. Within our contemporary post-human landscape, and amidst deep climate crisis and social inequity, how have our roles as culture producers shifted? What is the new materiality, beyond the Expanded Field?

Panelists - Cal Cullen, Maggie Lawson, Amanda Curreri

Integrating Digital Technologies with Traditional Metal Casting

10-11:00am

Many sculptors are familiar with traditional casting, but are not as familiar with what computer technologies can and cannot do for them. Younger artists may be experienced in the use of digital rendering and printing, but not know how or when traditional molding and casting techniques might better serve their purposes. We’ll explore some of the options available in each methodology.

Sculpture Parks and the Artists that Run Them
