We're excited to offer five demos in this year's Conference lineup.
Demos are included in the Conference registration, and no special sign-up is required. Stop by to learn more!

USG Plaster Demo

Discussion will be on USG products and their applications. Hands on demonstration of various plaster products and their capabilities will be presented.

VR 3D Modeling

This demonstration shows the fundamentals of 3D modeling through Gravity Sketch, a VR application. I will demonstrate the manipulation of polygons to create complex geometric forms, starting from a simple cube, using a VR headset.

What's In The Box!? - Packing and Crating Artwork

Join us for a practical, insight-filled demonstration on the essentials of packing and crating artwork, designed specifically for artists. This presentation and demonstration delves into the best practices for wrapping and packaging a diverse array of art forms, including paintings, works on paper, ceramics, and sculptures of varying sizes and mediums.

Discover the materials and methods that safeguard your art during transit, explore different philosophies of art handling, and learn first-hand how to design the perfect crate for your masterpiece. In this demo, we’ll uncover the secrets behind how museums pack and transport their collections, empowering you to apply these expert techniques to your own work.

Pouring Pewter: Quick Cast Metal

Want to learn the art of casting metal but only have an hour? Fear not, there is pewter!

Pewter is a metal alloy primarily made of tin, bismuth, and a touch of  copper. In this demo, we will use lead-free pewter. This blend has a low  melting temperature and can be worked with outside of a foundry,  making it the perfect metal to learn the art of metal casting.

We will begin the demo by looking at and preparing various molds that  can hold pewter. Secondly, we will go over the tools and safety of this  process. Then, we will melt the pewter, with an electric crucible and  pour the liquid metal into our prepared molds. We will finish by looking at the castings, talking about any flaws, and how to clean them up. Lastly, there will be time for addressing questions about the process.

3D Sand Printing 101

What is it? How is it being used? Who is using it? Aerospace and other industrial foundries have been using 3D Sand Printing for decades. It has been available to the public for over a decade but hasn’t been promoted to many sculptors in the past. Come learn what 3D Sand Printing is and how you can use it. The basics of how the machines work will be discussed and there will be multiple examples shown in a presentation along with sample molds that will be poured. The limitations of the technology will be discussed along with the advantages 3D Sand Printing can offer an artist.

Multiple 3D Printed sand molds will be available at the presentation for participants to examine. The 3D printed molds can be poured if a pour will happen during the conference. If not, they can be sent with whoever would like to try pouring them when the opportunity arises.
