MSA Select Overview Mid-South Sculpture Alliance (MSA) and the Slocumb Galleries under the Department of Art & Design at East Tennessee State University are partnering to present a juried exhibition. The Slocumb Galleries serve as a platform for innovative, dynamic and outstanding examples of contemporary art. Its educational, curatorial and public engagement programming address diversity in the formal, cultural and critical discourse. This exhibition fosters MSA’s mission to advance the creation and awareness of sculpture in its many and varied forms and promote a supportive environment for sculpture and sculptors. Selected sculptures will offer a dynamic exhibition highlighting a variety of techniques, media and content. MSA Professional Member Artists are encouraged to submit up to ten images of three dimensional work for consideration. Application and Exhibit Timeline Shipping Delivery Deadline October 12, 2022 Exhibition Opens October 17, 2022 Closing November 11, 2022 Artist Eligibility This opportunity is open to all professional visual artists, aged 18 and older, who are current or new professional members of MSA. Each applicant may enter up to THREE works; all entries must have been conceived and created by the artist submitting the work; all media suitable for indoor exhibition will be considered. Applying for membership can be made when submitting for this exhibition. Jurors Mike Barclay With over a decade of experience in museums and contemporary art galleries, Barclay is an independent curator, collections manager, and artist based in Indianapolis. As the Curator and Collections Manager for Eskenazi Health, he oversees acquisitions, care and preservation of the large historic and contemporary art collection. He has held previous positions as the Director of Exhibition for Indianapolis Contemporary and Assistant Gallery Director of the Herron Galleries at the Herron School of Art and Design. With special interests in community curation, he has collaborated with Indy Pride Inc., City of Columbus, Arts Council of Indianapolis and others. He holds a BA in Fine Arts and Graphic Design; BA in Art History and Classical Studies; and a Master’s in Museum Studies. Site The Slocumb Galleries are educational exhibition venues of the Department of Art & Design under the College of Arts and Sciences at East Tennessee State University. Our Mission is to develop creative excellence, foster collaborations, promote inclusivity and encourage critical thinking by providing access to and serving as inclusive platforms for innovative ideas and diverse exhibitions. The Slocumb Galleries promote the understanding, presentation and appreciation of contemporary art in support of the academic experiences and the cultural development of the region, through collaborative programming with various units and community institutions. Artwork Themes The open call for submission requires no theme nor specific media or subject matter. Innovative, new, excellent examples of formal, process-driven, material transformation and strong conceptual or technique in sculpture are desired. The ETSU Tipton and Slocumb Galleries are educational facilities and discourage commercial-driven or travel-souvenir mass production work. The shape and content of the show will be defined entirely by the jurors. Installation All accepted artwork should either be shipped or hand delivered to the Slocumb Galleries at Slocumb Galleries 325 Treasure Lane
The exhibition encourages small and medium sized work due to space limitations. Sculptural assemblage may be considered but too elaborate installation is discouraged. Wall mounted works and lightweight suspension works are permissible. Works must not exceed 5 ft in any direction and not weigh over 150 lbs. Limitation & Restrictions
Artist Responsibilities MSA and the Slocumb Galleries will supply power, tools, pedestals and assistance for installation. The artist will provide hardware needed. Selected artists are encouraged to send a detailed installation instruction of artwork. If needed, Artists may come during installation to set up their work. Notification: Both selected and rejected artists will be notified of their selection by email.

To the best of your knowledge, you are eligible to be considered for MSA’s Juried Member Exhibition. Your application contains your work and the information in your resume is complete and true. You understand that if accepted, it will be your responsibility to deliver your work to the Slocumb Galleries ready for hanging and on time, concurrent with any schedules given to you upon acceptance. If accepted, the work presented with this application is the work that will be installed in the exhibit. All works are insured while on Slocumb Galleries premises.
